Ed
Miliband - Energy & Net Zero winner
Where the policies of Rachel Reeves appear to be anything but as per
Labour's election promises. Plainly, that is not the case for renewable
energy, save only that the promised new all British Grid to cope with
solar and wind generation, is nothing more than a pipe dream at present.
It should be clear to all parties, that we must take back ownership of
our energy supply systems, and stop paying dividends to foreign
investors.
The
only way to do this is to build an alternative Grid as quickly as
possible. A hydrogen highway to economic heaven. Hydrogen can be stored
in hydrogen batteries for trucks and other EVs, or as methanol. Hydrogen
in gaseous form, may be used in modified conventional boilers. Though,
we prefer storage in cartridges for fuel cells, this option is about as
far away from fruition as another Moon landing. There simply is no
mechanism to encourage innovation. Especially with a patent system that
dumps on the little man, with big businesses ripping off inventions
using their financial muscle to tie up inventors in knots, while they
make off with ideas - without paying for them. The best known example
being Robert
Kearns battle against Ford. The patent system needs to change to
give inventors state protections, with reductions in filing fees for green
patents. No charges until a patent yields an income, and a 50 years
life span extension. For starters.

GB NEWS 25 FEBRUARY 2025 - ECONOMY UPDATE: NET ZERO 'ESSENTIAL TO GDP GROWTH' AS UK BOOSTED BY £83 BILLION THANKS TO 'CLEAN ENERGY'
Britain's net zero sector is growing at triple the rate of the wider economy, according to a new analysis released by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) this morning.
The sector expanded by 10 per cent in 2024, generating £83billion in gross value added (GVA) to the UK economy, in a boon for the Labour Government's goal of bolstering economic growth.
According to the CBI, these findings directly challenge claims that climate action hampers economic growth, showing instead that environmental progress and economic benefits can work in tandem.
The net zero economy now accounts for 1.1 per cent of the UK's total GVA, making it larger than both the farming sector and the advertising and market research industries.
Furthermore, this robust growth follows a nine per cent increase in 2023, demonstrating sustained momentum in the green economy.
Analysis revealed that 22,000 businesses now operate in the UK's net zero sector, spanning areas from renewable energy to green finance. These companies employ nearly one million people in full-time positions across the country.
Workers in the sector enjoy above-average wages, with typical annual salaries of £43,000 - some £5,600 higher than the national average.
The sector has also demonstrated superior productivity, with net zero jobs showing 38 per cent higher productivity compared to the UK average.
These findings encompass businesses working across multiple green industries, including electric vehicles, heat pumps, energy storage, and waste management and recycling.
Louise Hellem, the CBI's chief economist, emphasised the link between economic growth and environmental action.
"It is clear, you can't have growth without green - 2025 is the year when the rubber really hits the road, where inaction is indisputably costlier than action," she said.
She highlighted that critical deadlines for energy security and emissions reduction are approaching.
"It's really fantastic to see the growing strength of the net zero economy in the UK and we need to really continue to see that ambition," Hellem added.
Recently, MPs have hit back at the suggestion net zero is beneficial for the economy, including Reform UK's assertion that "net zero is crippling our economy" and the Conservative party's stance that it "leaves us economically worse off".
There appears to be strong regional distribution across the United Kingdom when it comes to the net zero economy, the CBI found.
The West Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, and South West England have emerged as the largest hotspots for green economic activity.
Scotland has seen particularly impressive growth, with net zero jobs increasing by 20 per cent since 2022.
The report concluded that "the net zero economy is not only driving environmental progress but also delivering transformative economic and social benefits across the UK".
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband responded to the findings, stating: "These numbers speak for themselves. Net zero is essential to growth, a strong economy and money in working people's pockets."
He emphasised Britain's ambition to become a "clean energy superpower" as the route to energy security and community investment.
While the UK's net zero sector shows strong growth, it still lags behind its European counterparts, with EU economies deriving 50 per cent more value from their green sectors.
China's clean energy sector has also made significant strides, contributing a record 10 per cent of the country's GDP in 2024.
Labour MP Luke Murphy, chair of the all-party parliamentary group on climate change, warned: "There are huge costs to not seeing this transition as an economic opportunity."
ABOUT ED MILLIBAND
Ed Miliband was appointed Secretary of State for
Energy Security and
Net Zero on 5 July 2024. He was elected as the MP for Doncaster North in July 2024.
Ed Miliband has been the shadow
energy secretary since 2021. He previously led
Labour from 2010 to 2015, stepping down following the party’s crushing loss to the Tories at the 2015 general election.
He was first elected as the MP for Doncaster North in May 2005, and served in
Gordon
Brown’s government before succeeding the New Labour veteran as leader, having defeated his brother David in the race for the top job.
He took a break from front-line politics during Mr Corbyn’s tenure, returning as Sir Keir’s shadow business secretary before taking the
energy brief.
Previous holders of this role
include the Rt Hon Claire Coutinho from 2023 to 2024 and the Rt Hon Grant Shapps
2023 to 2023. During which time there was no headway on charging points
for EVs
or hydrogen
service
stations for FCEVs.
Nor was the Grid improved to allow transition to zero emission
transport, and the dividends flowed to overseas investors care of Margaret
Thatcher's great British garage sale. And the less said about ZEWT
ocean transport the better.

ENERGY LIVE NEWS 23 JULY 2024 - ENERGY SECRETARY SETS NEW CAPACITY MARKET AUCTION RULES
Ed Miliband has outlined the rules for the upcoming Capacity Market auctions for 2025-2026 and 2028-2029.
The Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net
Zero, Ed Miliband, has issued a letter to the Electricity System Operator detailing the parameters for the forthcoming Capacity Market auctions.
The letter outlines the requirements for the T-1 auction for the 2025-2026 delivery year and the T-4 auction for the 2028-2029 delivery year.
The parameters include the volume of capacity to be secured and de-rating factors for interconnections.
For the T-1 auction, a target capacity of 6.5GW has been set, which is a reduction from the initially recommended 6.8GW.
For the T-4 auction, the target capacity is 45GW, with 1GW set aside for the associated T-1 auction, resulting in a procurement target of 44GW.
The letter also indicates that the parameters for the auctions may be updated following pre-qualification and will be confirmed before the auctions take place in early 2025.
In addition, the letter references the ongoing consultations aimed at improving the security of supply and aligning the Capacity Market with the government’s net zero
goals.
Feedback from industry stakeholders and representative bodies has been considered in setting these parameters.
The government has also completed a consultation on Capacity Market reforms, which aimed to boost supply security and align with net zero goals.
The government said the changes will be made through amendments to the Capacity Market Rules 2014 rather than the
Electricity Capacity Regulations 2014, including allowing mothballed plants and
batteries to participate in auctions.
FOSSIL
FOOLS - Geriatric politicians with 'climate-senile' policies will
find in difficult to break away from their corrupt ways, as part time
politicians with two jobs. Their main job being to find paid consultancy
work, rather than craft policies and create statute that works to
protect our voters from lung
cancer, energy shortages and a lack of affordable (sustainable)
housing.
The
'zerophobics' are the undertakers of the political world, sending
millions of ordinary people to an early grave, while loading us with NHS,
hospital and staff costs that would not be needed if we had clean air in
our cities.
Basically,
the longer you are in politics, the more likely you are to be exposed to
bribes, from climate
deniers, mostly fossil fuel and energy companies, looking to keep on
pumping toxic fumes into the atmosphere, so they can keep making money.
The political undertakers are working with them to keep hospitals
stocked with cancer victims, adding to the £Trillions we owe as part of
the national debt. Under Boris and Rishi Sunack, pensioner's saving have
halved in real terms. They are blood sucking vampires, draining what
little you had saved for your retirement.
