King Charles
No longer in waiting, Charles became the King of Britain and Northern Ireland in 2022, on the passing of his mother.
King Charles had been the Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952 and is both the oldest and the longest-serving heir apparent in British history. He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held the title since July 1958. Upon the death of his father, Prince Philip, on 9 April 2021, Charles also inherited the title of Duke of Edinburgh.
NATIONAL DEBT
Much like Henry Tudor VIII, whose heavy spending and long periods of mismanagement damaged the British economy. A similar pattern appears to have been adopted by modern Labour and Conservative politicians in the 20th and 21st centuries, leading to climate change and staggering national debts £2.4 Trillion pounds, energy and cost of living crises. You can see how irresponsible policies have not grown the economy, but simply grown National Debt. The opposite of Green or Blue Growth, this is Red Growth, or Red Ink. Blood red, in overtaxing the sweat of the ordinary man.
Quarter Debt £billions as % GDP
UK general government gross debt was £2,365.4 billion at the end of Quarter 1 (Jan to Mar) 2022, equivalent to 99.6% of gross domestic product (GDP). Leaving almost no reserves, taking the country to the brink in any language. Where growth is contrary to sustainable or circular economics. Simply because earth is being drained at the rate of 2.4 planets, of the ability of the world to produce. Meaning that, to start to get things under control, borrowing needs to reduce to £985 billion pounds at present GDP. A truly sustainable economy would not need any borrowings, but have reserves rather than debt, as in nature.
Ultimately, the Head of State is responsible for appointing a Government that is fit for purpose. Calling into question that suitability for continuation of such a role, where the poor performance is evidence that a country without a Written Constitution, that is not answerable to the electorate (unaccountable) and sustainable international policies, does not work. The UK is not alone in this. Policy corruption is of international concern.
EARLY LIFE
Charles was born in
Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, both of which his father attended as a child. He later spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cambridge, Charles served in the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy from 1971 to 1976. In 1981, he married
Lady Diana
Spencer, with whom he had two sons: Prince William and Prince Harry. In 1996, the couple divorced following well-publicised extramarital affairs by both parties. Diana died as the result of a car crash in Paris the following year. In 2005, Charles married his long-term partner Camilla Parker Bowles.
Charles served in the Royal Air Force and, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and two of his great-grandfathers, in the Royal Navy. During his second year at Cambridge, he requested and received Royal Air Force training. On 8 March 1971, he flew himself to the Royal Air Force College Cranwell to train as a jet pilot. After the passing-out parade that September, he embarked on a naval career and enrolled in a six-week course at the Royal Naval College Dartmouth. He then served on the guided-missile destroyer HMS Norfolk (1971–1972) and the frigates HMS Minerva (1972–1973) and HMS Jupiter (1974). In 1974, he qualified as a helicopter pilot at RNAS Yeovilton, and then joined 845 Naval Air Squadron, operating from HMS Hermes.
As the Prince of Wales, he was a long time champion of climate awareness, also speaking out on plastic pollution. The King is arranging a COP27 event at Buckingham Palace, in support of that in Egypt at Sharm El-Sheikh.
The Prince
of Wales, 73, is currently the third King of England, named Charles III. His
son, the Duke
of Cambridge, Prince William, is
a King in waiting - as of
2022. King Charles I lived from 1600 until 1649, when he was executed for treason.
The previous King, Charles II, ruled from 1630 until 1685, gave a Royal Charter to export captured native Africans as slaves to British colonies.
Queen Elizabeth I (Good Queen Bess), was famous for commissioning privateers to carry out acts of piracy on the high seas, to boost the coffers of her Treasury. As was Queen Anne 1665 - 1714. King George I carried on with privateers, then politics changed during his reign 1714 to 1727.
